gamsat biology videos

A knowledge of the key principles of biology is necessary to do well in the GAMSAT. If you do not know this you are setting yourself up for failure. Here are a whole heap of videos relating to GAMSAT biology. The majority of these are provided by Khan Academy.

Please note that while these videos cover a large portion of the GAMSAT assumed knowledge, they are not an exhaustive study guide. You should also consult a textbook to consolidate your learning.

Introduction to DNA

This introduces the topic of DNA. If you studied first year university or senior high school biology you should already be familiar with this.

Mendelian Genetics

There will almost always be a mendelian (mendellan) genetics unit in GAMSAT. Its easy amrs if you know what you're doing.

Punnet Squares

Punnet squares are what you will most often use to solve Mendellan genetics questions, so get it right.

Hardy Weinberg Principle

This video extends and reviews everything so far about sex-linked traits and Mendelian genetics.

Cellular Respiration

There has been an increasing trend for biochemistry questions in GAMSAT so it pays to at least have a basic understanding of cellular respiration: the process of how we produce energy.

Diffusion and Osmosis

You should know all about diffusion and osmosis for GAMSAT. There have been numerous questions in the past based on molecular transport in the body.

Lungs and the Pulmonary System

It really pays to know the different systems of the body so we will start with the lungs. There is always a question in GAMSAT with something to do with the lungs.

Circulatory System and the Heart

You really should know how blood is pumped around the body. We recommend that you practice drawing it after the video just so you can get the hang of it.

Nervous System

Questions regarding the nervous system have been in past GAMSATs so if you understand the nervous system it will make things a lot less painful.

Sodium Potassium Pump

This is a very common signalling and transport system that is present throughout the body.

Kidneys

Another important bodily system that you should be familiar with.
